How Does Reiki Work?
During a session the practitioner acts as a channel for the Reiki energy. It flows through the crown chakra to the heart chakra, then passes through two energy meridians running across the chest, down the arms and into the hand chakras where it can be passed on to another person. Once initiated by a Reiki Master, the practitioner can begin offering Reiki with little or no training. Simply placing one’s hands on an affected area will start the energy flowing. It requires no special attention or concentration by the practitioner, although it is advised that the practitioner have a quiet or peaceful mind while conducting a session.
What Does Reiki Feel Like?
From the practitioner’s point of view, the sensations will vary from client to client. These sensations include a comfortable tingling in the palms of the hand, heat, cold, and in some occasions nothing (although the client often feels a great deal).
Clients report feeling similar sensations on whatever area the practitioner is working. This includes distance healing for those trained in Level 2 and higher. Often times the client may feel the symptoms of their ailment intensify before getting better. Should this occur, do not be alarmed as it is caused by the client’s body releasing toxins and generally passes within twenty four hours.
How is Reiki Different from Other Forms of Healing?
There are various types of healing energy, many having life force energy (Ki) as one of its aspects. While all healers use this life force energy to some degree, not all are using Reiki. Reiki radiates from the physical bodies of all living beings, especially through the hands, feet, eyes, and mouth. The Reiki attunement process clears blockages in the practitioner's energetic framework, allowing the Reiki energy to flow through certain pathways within their body. By training with a Reiki Master we are made aware of this energy and learn how to direct it for healing. Once initiated the practitioner will have the awareness of Reiki for the rest of their life whether they choose to utilize it or not. However, daily practice deepens the understanding of the universal life force and also helps us in becoming a clearer channel for its use.
